Skugga Vineyard: Chiang Mai’s Next Great Escape for Wine, Food & Celebration

Chiang Mai is already known for its mountain air, creative energy, and hidden luxury retreats. But come October 2025, there’s a new landmark rising in the Mae On Highlands that promises to change how the city thinks about wine and celebration: Skugga Vineyard.

Just a short drive from the original Skugga Farm, this project isn’t just about growing grapes. It’s about creating an experience — one that blends global wine culture with Northern Thailand’s flair for design, dining, and destination events.

A Vineyard with Ambition

The vineyard is planting a bold mix of varietals — Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Barbera, Syrah/Shiraz, and Chenin Blanc — positioning itself to surprise even seasoned wine travelers. But the architecture is just as ambitious: a sleek, modern winery building with a cellar door, bar, and underground wine cellar designed as much for atmosphere as for aging bottles.

More Than a Glass of Wine

Skugga wants you to linger. Tastings here won’t be limited to a quick pour. Think wine and chocolate pairing flights crafted with Skugga’s own chocolates, private cellar experiences in an immersive underground space, and even gin and botanical tastings that pull in Chiang Mai’s craft spirit culture.

Food for Every Mood

Dining will come in two layers:

  • Upstairs: a farm-to-fine dining restaurant with 12-course degustation menus paired to the vineyard’s wines.
  • Downstairs: a casual bistro courtyard where rustic plates, small bites, and craft drinks are designed for long afternoons with friends.

It’s a dual personality — refined upstairs, relaxed downstairs — that mirrors Chiang Mai itself.

The New Stage for Chiang Mai Weddings & Events

By November 2025, Skugga Vineyard will also open its Festival Hall and outdoor courtyards. Built for weddings, corporate gatherings, and festivals, the spaces combine modern function with vineyard charm. A purpose-built hall for 200 guests, private bars, bridal suites, open-air courtyards, and a stage-ready floorplan hint at what could quickly become one of the city’s most in-demand venues.

Why It Matters

Chiang Mai has always been more about craft coffee and boutique resorts than about wine. Skugga Vineyard is changing that story. With its mix of wine culture, gastronomy, and design-driven event spaces, it positions the Mae On Highlands as more than a weekend getaway — it’s shaping up to be the city’s newest cultural hub.

Opening October 2025. Expect to see Skugga Vineyard on every must-visit list soon after.
