Rai Som School: A Beacon of Hope for Children in Need

The Story of a School that Overcomes Barriers to Education
Rai Som School

For many children around the world, access to education is a luxury they cannot afford. Poverty, distance, and lack of resources can make it impossible for them to attend regular school, leaving them with little hope for a brighter future.

But for the students of Rai Som School in Thailand, these barriers are being overcome, thanks to the vision and dedication of its director, Mr. Ott.

“Children want to study, but they lack the opportunity and resources. They have to move along with their parents to various places to find work, earning no more than 200 baht per day. Ultimately, they grow beyond the age to attend regular school,” shared Mr. Ott, the director of the Rai Som School and The Mirror Foundation.

Rai Som School is a learning hub for the entire community, providing education and hope to around 200 young lives, primarily ethnic Tai Yai children who are indigenous to the area, and other Tai Yai children who have migrated from neighboring countries. The school, which has been operational for five years, started with bamboo huts as classrooms and has now begun to build permanent structures.

What they desperately lack are 200 sets of tables and chairs, so all the children can sit and write down their dreams and imaginations.

Mr. Ott is the driving force behind the creation of the school, which aims to provide education to children who would otherwise have no access to it. He believes that every child deserves a chance to learn and grow, regardless of their circumstances. And with Rai Som School, he’s making that dream a reality.

On Saturday, July 15th, 2023, Rai Som School, in collaboration with ChiangMai Touch, DeeMeeRoyYim community, and Chiang Mai Street Jazz, will host a fundraising event to buy tables and chairs for the students.

The event, a live charity concert for the stateless students of Rai Som School, will feature a range of musical acts, including Mai&Friend, Cm Saxtet, Gypsy Lanna, Fusion Mania, Super Rich, and Snake Blues.

This event is an opportunity to become a part of the change, to listen to voices you’ve never heard before, and to make dreams a reality for the students of Rai Som School.

Rai Som School is a beacon of hope for children in need, a testament to the power of education, and a reminder that with determination and dedication we can overcome even the most challenging obstacles. It serves as an inspiration to all of us to do what we can to make a difference in the world, no matter how small.

At Rai Som School, differences and distances are no longer barriers to education. Instead, the school is a place where students and teachers come together to learn, grow, and thrive. It’s a place where dreams are nurtured and imaginations are set free.

And with the support of the community, it’s a place that will continue to make a difference in the lives of children for years to come.

So let’s come together on July 15th to support the students of Rai Som School. Let’s show them that we believe in their dreams and that we’re committed to helping them achieve them. And let’s be a part of the change we want to see in the world.

Together, we can make a difference.
